Canoeing Section

June 29-30   Launch! Sunwapta River confluence to Old Fort Point
July 1   Canada Day!

July 5-9   Hinton to Whitecourt
July 11-12   Whitecourt to Fort Assiniboine
July 12-15   Fort Assiniboine to Smith/Hondo

Athabasca River Basin Stewardship Conference & Alberta Environment Network (AEN) Annual General Meeting
A bioregional gathering of friends of the Athabasca River Basin from Jasper through Fort Chipewyan & beyond. The conference will offer an exciting opportunity to support & strengthen existing partnerships & build new ones as we build & launch a coalition focusing on the protection of the Athabasca River.

Oil Sands Canoe Flotilla
Bring your canoe & paddle through the oil sands from Fort McMurray to Fort MacKay with representatives from the Athabasca Tribal Council, expedition team, local residents & interested Albertans.

We launch from Fort McMurray early on August 4.

Community Forum and Rally
Join us in listening to First Nation leaders, Elders, local hunters & trappers, experts on water and health issues, and friends from Canadian & U.S.A. environmental organizations concerned about the devastating effects unfettered oil sands development is having on this remote community and sensitive ecosystem. BBQ at 5PM with speakers to follow. All are welcome.

Current slate of speakers includes: Chiefs and Elders from the community, Dr. O'Connor, Dr. Schindler, Melanie Nakagawa (NRDC), Don van Hout (expedition leader), Dan Woynillowicz (Pembina Institute).
