Connecting the Drops is an outreach and awareness campaign that culminates in a two-month expedition along the entire length of the Athabasca River. By reaching out to thousands of Albertans, the campaign aims to raise awareness about the environmental, social and economic significance of the Athabasca watershed and key issues related to its protection. The campaign celebrates the importance of the Athabasca River and provides an opportunity to bring forward the voices of those who are concerned about its future health.

The campaign is a partnership initiative of the Pembina Institute and partner organizations, which include communities, businesses and organizations from the Athabasca region and beyond that recognize the importance of protecting the Athabasca River.

Connecting the Drops

The campaign will engage local communities and play a key role in raising awareness both within the watershed and across Alberta about the importance of this vast area of the province. Through presentations, community meetings and other outreach opportunities aimed at strengthening people's awareness and connection to the river, we will seek to tap into the inspiration of local communities and build partnerships to support the health of the Athabasca watershed. They are sharing stories and voicing concerns about such issues as the stress oil sands development is placing on the Athabasca River Basin and boreal forest, and their expectations for improved management of Alberta's water resources.
